DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for oversight of the bridge safety inspection program, including developing the scope of the project, facilitating task orders, ensuring updated load ratings for posting and closing bridges are completed, performing scour studies and required Plans of Action (POA’s), in-house resource management, and providing quality control for the bridge inspection program.
  • Recommends repairs for defects found during inspections to bridge owners, and prepares plans, specifications, and estimates as necessary.
  • Responds to urgent and/or emergency events involving the condition of bridges and assists in making important decisions on the necessary actions.
  • Meets or exceeds inspection program standards and ensures compliance with Federal and State requirements. Actively participates in ODOT Bridge Inspection QC/QA training.
  • May serve as project engineer with autonomy for project-related tasks and as a designated client contact. May have project management responsibilities on multiple projects. Responsible for successful completion of projects, including schedule, budget, and profitability.
  • May develop feasible engineering design alternatives to meet project requirements. Performs structural calculations, modeling, analysis, and design.
  • Participates in and ensures QC/QA procedures are followed. Maintains accurate design standards and procedures in assigned work.
  • Responsible for work-in-progress, ensures accurate client billings, and monitors outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on assigned projects.
  • Develops, fosters, and maintains client relationships. Pursues repeat or follow-up work with current clients. Collaborates with Marketing and Business Development staff to respond to new business opportunities, including engaging in preparation of proposals, interviews, and presentations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in civil or structural engineering from ABET accredited university. Master’s degree with emphasis in structural engineering preferred.
  • Three or more years related experience in bridge/roadway design and plan production or bridge inspection.
  • Oklahoma Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Completed NHI Course No. 130055 (Safety Inspection on In-Service Bridges).
  • Familiarity with Specifications for the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI).
  • Smart phone with data plan necessary for multi-factor authentication, time tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.
  • English language skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, plans and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, managers, clients, vendors, and the public.
  • Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry to practical situations.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc., as well as proficiency with specialized engineering design software.
  • Organizational skills: ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Remote connectivity device with data plan sufficient for company requirements, such as multi-factor authentication, time and mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature.
  • Ability to talk and hear.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to sit up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk, including over uneven surfaces, for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise.
  • Occasionally outdoors exposed to traffic and to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.), dust, dirt, cuts, bites, or stings.
  • Required use of protective and/or safety equipment. 

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Fixed schedule of 40 hours per week between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Occasional extended hours required as projects dictate.
  • Eligible to submit application for telecommuting after 90 days.
