CVEC Copper Change Out
CEC was selected by Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative to design reconductor and rebuild projects to remove outdated copper conductor. This project is a multi-year project and will cover parts throughout CVEC’s service territory. CEC’s Staking Engineers assessed and re-designed miles of line and identified the structural and equipment changes necessary to re-conductor and re-span miles of copper conductor. In their re-design, CEC used existing crossing structures to limit the need to file new permits with ODOT, railroad companies, and local cities and counties.
This project sought to improve CVEC’s reliability and safety to their member owners and their employees by removing copper conductor and replacing it with ACSR conductor.
CEC designed the project in the client preferred software (NISC) while utilizing RUS standards, client specific standards, and client preferred material. The designs were also created with the use of a Bluetooth compatible GPS receiver with sub-meter accuracy. CEC handled the role and responsibilities of staking engineer from the inspection of the current equipment to design, staking the design for construction and providing construction support throughout the construction and closeout phases of these projects.
