I-44 MSE Wall
In May of 2016, CEC was tasked by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) to conduct a series of mobile LiDAR scans for a particular section of retaining wall. This was a rather unique project as the purpose was to determine whether the retaining wall was beginning to displace and to monitor possible movement over time. Determining subtle changes over time can prove difficult using conventional surveying/inspection methods, making this a great candidate for mobile LiDAR.
Due to the temporal-comparative nature of the data to be collected, it was imperative that we established an accurate baseline for the series of scans. Utilizing existing survey control, the CEC team established a series of mobile LiDAR targets to be utilized for every following mission. This would ensure that the most accurate comparison could be drawn between the series of datasets. Data acquisition and analysis was, and continues to be, performed every 3 months.
At CEC, it is our mission to eliminate aging infrastructure. A vital part of that process is to identify possible concerns before they become dangerous issues. We take that great responsibility seriously. By combining our expertise and our love for our community, we aim to help make Oklahoma’s infrastructure better, and safer, than ever.
