Crowdsourced Event Recorder & Web Map
The Payne County Assessor approached CEC about an idea of creating a GIS application allowing citizens to report certain hazards and issues they spot in Payne County with mobile technology and having the ability to see these on a map and report these events to the respective county commissioners. CEC created a Crowdsourced Hazard Reporter which allows users to report on issues in 3 categories; road issues such as pot holes and washouts, missing or damaged signs, and trash issues such as trash dumps. We also created a web-based map for general viewing by the public and commissioners with locations and information about each event reported. Furthermore, CEC created a dashboard application for the Assessor and GIS staff to monitor incoming events, edit these events as needed, and remove events that are deemed false or irrelevant. CEC gave the functionality in the dashboard to export and deliver spreadsheets and reports to commissioners about reported events in their districts. The purpose behind this project was to create a sense of transparency and accountability for citizens and their dealings with County officials.
