DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates various electromagnetic locating equipment to locate and mark underground utilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
  • Reads and interprets utility plans and prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
  • Provides accurate documentation and or sketches related to locates completed.
  • Coordinates and effectively communicates with supervisor, team members, and utility representatives
  • Participates in and ensures QC/QA procedures are followed. Maintains accurate design standards and procedures in assigned work.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and vehicle (if applicable).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED).
  • One+ years of locating/designating experience is preferred,
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Vacuum excavation truck experience a plus.
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing.  Safety-sensitive position subject to random drug testing.
  • English language skills:  ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to coworkers and clients.
  • Mathematical skills:  ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficient personal computer skills.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MicroStation, Trimble, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GEOPAK preferred.
  • Organizational skills:  ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Remote connectivity device with data plan necessary for multi-factor authentication, mileage tracking, expense reimbursement,  e-mail, and virtual communications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Moderate to heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Ability to stand and walk up to ten hours per day, frequently over uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain and climb over or crawl under obstacles; ability to occasionally bend, crouch or stoop.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Intermittently, ability to sit up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to hear and talk, to communicate, and give verbal direction.
  • Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift and move up 50 pounds regularly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primarily outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.), dust, dirt, cuts, bites, or stings.
  • Requires use of protective and/or safety equipment.
  • Intermittently, well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Friday normally; occasional weekend work may be required.
  • Flexible schedule with extended hours may be required.
  • Required to travel 75-100% to field project sites.

This position includes safety-sensitive job functions, and random screenings will be conducted in accordance with CEC’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
