This role is responsible for conducting accurate and efficient land surveys for various projects in Texas and Oklahoma.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Including but not limited to:

  • Frequent travel to Oklahoma initially for training and production work, with Texas Survey the primary focus as soon as practicable.
  • Provides technical support while working independently but under the direction of and as a team with a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS).
  • Collaborates and engages colleagues in training, mentoring, and workload sharing to help yourself and colleagues grow professionally.
  • Trains crew members and directs their work as a servant leader while performing surveys in accordance with the RPLS’ directions.
  • Performs tasks outside of the Texas Survey Department on an as needed basis to assist with SUE, Remote Sensing, or Oklahoma Survey.
  • Has a thorough understanding of the Right-of-Entry process in Texas to prevent trespassing, with the ability to coordinate professionally with landowners on an as needed basis to secure the right to enter private property.
  • Performs office or courthouse research of previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
  • Performs field and office survey activities in accordance with standards set by CEC, RPLS, State Statutes, and the Standard of Care set by the surveying industry.
  • Accurately records the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features for ALTA, TSPS, ROW, Route, Plat, Easement, and/or Topographic Surveys.
  • Accurately creates field notes of surveys performed with detailed field sketches, rod height tracking, control deltas, and descriptive notes of unusual circumstances, etc.
  • Verifies the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites with a documented QC/QA process as determined by the Survey Department Manager, Geospatial Practice, and CEC.
  • Plans daily activities while considering possible multiple projects to meet productivity goals set by RPLS, Department Manager, and/or Team Leader, with the ability to effectively communicate any potential scheduling conflicts in a professional manner.
  • Adheres to and ensures survey crew follows established company policies, Geospatial Practice procedures, and standard survey procedures.
  • Professionally communicates data and results of surveys with office personnel, engineering personnel, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Communicates and acts professionally both verbally and in writing with peers, clients, and the public at large while representing CEC Core Values.
  • Prepares metes and bounds descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in easements, deeds, leases, plats, or other legal documents.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and vehicle in excellent working order.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures of CEC and its clients.
  • This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) safety sensitive position subject to annual and random drug testing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) and 10 to 15 years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Discretion of Department Manager).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing. Department of Transportation (DOT) sensitive positions subject to annual and random drug testing.
  • Detailed understanding of Trimble GPS and Robotic Total Station functions and capabilities.
  • English language skills:  ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to clients or CEC employees.
  • Mathematical skills:  ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Organizational skills:  ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Remote connectivity device with data plan sufficient for company requirements, such as multi-factor authentication, time tracking, truck maintenance, mileage tracking, expense reimbursement, e-mail, and virtual communications.

PREFERRED

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Trimble Business Center software 
  • Knowledge of Trimble equipment. Extensive experience using Trimble GPS and Robots, with knowledge of and/or willingness to learn Laser Scanning
  • Knowledge of Land Surveying Statutes and Standards in Texas
  • An associate degree in land surveying
  • Desire and ability to pursue certification as a CST or licensure as an SIT/RPLS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to stand and walk up to ten hours per day.
  • Ability to sit in vehicle to travel up to four hours.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain and climb over or crawl under obstacles.
  • Ability to hear and talk to communicate and receive direction.
  • Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to adjust focus; depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to manipulate computer mouse when working in office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, etc.
  • Potential exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings.
  • Requires use of protective and/or safety equipment.
  • Requires repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and over.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Friday normally; occasional weekend work may be required.
  • Extended working hours; frequent 10- to 12-hour days.
  • Frequent heavy overnight travel (up to 50% or ten days a month; occasional extensive overnight travel (over 50% or more than ten days a month).

This position includes safety-sensitive job functions, and random screenings will be conducted in accordance with CEC’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
