DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as project land surveyor with autonomy for project-related tasks and as a designated client contact.  May have project management responsibilities on multiple projects. Responsible for successful completion of projects, including schedule, budget and profitability.
  • Researches and reviews previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
  • Performs survey activities in accordance with standards set by the company, state statutes and the surveying industry.
  • Trains crew members and directs their work in performing surveys.
  • Creates property boundaries, easement boundaries, right of way boundaries, or any other land line boundaries based on field and office research
  • Reviews and records the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
  • Verifies the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
  • Writes descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents.
  • Maintains detailed and organized project notes and documentation.
  • Provides supporting information and/or documentation about measurements, calculations, results of surveying activities to the responsible charge Professional Licensed Surveyor until licensed.
  • Operates and has knowledge of survey equipment functions and capabilities.
  • Develops contract documents setting project scope, schedule and fees.  Ensures the contract is signed by all parties prior to commencing work.  Responsible to prevent scope creep and completes contract amendments or supplements as necessary in a timely manner.
  • Develops detailed project management plans that provide logical sequencing of the work required, project schedules, timelines, milestones, budget estimates, cash flows, and resource requirements.
  • Fosters and maintains client relationships.  Helps pursue repeat or follow-up work with current clients.  Collaborates with Marketing and Business Development staff to respond to new business opportunities, including engaging in preparation of proposals, interviews and presentations.
  • Coordinates with departmental leadership and Accounting regarding project invoicing, collections, and project closeout.
  • Plans daily activities considering possible multiple projects to meet productivity goals set by Department Manager or Practice Leader.
  • Coordinates data and results of the work with SAM office personnel, engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.
  • Performs or oversees quality control functions on assigned projects and/or tasks.
  • Performs limited personnel functions, including input for performance management, mentoring and employee development. Assist with planning and/or scheduling work for crews. 
  • Schedules and conducts project meetings, both external and internal.  Responsible for meeting minutes by keeping or assigning someone else.
  • Troubleshoots problems and forecasts potential project issues to facilitate capacity planning and efficient utilization of staff and resources.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Adheres to established company/practice/departmental policies.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and vehicle (if applicable).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Oklahoma Professional Land Surveyor license.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing.  Department of Transportation (DOT) safety sensitive position subject to annual and random drug testing.
  • English language skills:  ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to clients or CEC employees.
  • Mathematical skills:  ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Experience with Bentley MicroStation/OpenRoads/InRoads, and Trimble Business Center also helpful.
  • Organizational skills:  ability to prioritize and organize tasks; ability to handle multiple clients and tasks simultaneously; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

When office work is required

  • Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a technical or administrative nature.
  • Intermittently, ability to sit up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to manipulate computer mouse up to eight hours per day.

When field work is required:

  • Some heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Ability to stand and walk up to ten hours per day. 
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain and climb over or crawl under obstacles. 
  • Ability to occasionally bend, crouch or stoop.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, frequently over uneven surfaces.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Ability to hear and talk, to communicate, and give verbal direction.
  • Ability to see clearly 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to adjust focus; depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Office setting: Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise.
  • Field setting: Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.), dust, dirt, cuts, bites, or stings.
  • Requires use of protective and/or safety equipment.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Monday through Friday normally; occasional weekend work may be required.
  • Flexible schedule with extended hours may be required.
  • Occasional overnight travel.
